ISLE OF WIGHT - KITCHEN
This is a four bedroom house in the seaside town of Cowes, Isle of Wight we completed in 2017. This house was previously owned by a carpenter who loved working with wood and had decided to put it… EVERYWHERE. The kitchen in this home was very cut off from the rest of the living space. The brief was to modernise the look of the house as well as make the kitchen and dining area more open plan. The main areas of renovation were the kitchen, dining, laundry space and the exterior while the remainder of the house just needed some contemporary styling to make the house look more modern and feel more cohesive. This renovation was WAY too big for one post so we will bring you the before and afters of the main areas in the coming weeks… stay tuned!
The heart of the home is absolutely the kitchen, we wanted this space to feel bright and sunny and make it a space the family could come together. By simply removing one wall and blocking up one doorway we were able to create a lovely open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is very spacious with a large island - perfect for this young family. We chose a contemporary white and grey colour palette and did a mix of both for the cabinets, we included an integrated wall oven and microwave, dishwasher, wine fridge, pull out pantry and space for a double fridge. We kept the island bench clear and large enough to seat the whole family. What more does a kitchen need!? The barstools were sourced from from Normann Copenhagen in a gorgeous dark green to add some colour to this neutral palette.
The dining area is situated next to the kitchen at the front of the property, again this room is very bright and once opened up to the kitchen, had an open airy feel. The table was custom made by a local craftsman from American Oak with a glass top that again adds to the feeling of openness. The dining chairs are from &tradition and the pendant light from Muuto. The art is clients own.
Overall this space feels light, spacious and open - think we nailed the brief! We couldn’t resist adding a few before, during and after shots.
