SHARED BOYS ROOM
My kids had been nagging me to share a room ever since we moved back to Dubai. Secretly, I was stoked with the idea as this meant we could also have a much needed guest bedroom. I wanted to create a room for them that was age appropriate for both (3 and 6 years) but was also fun and whimsical (and wouldn't go out of date too quickly). I also wanted to give them a space that they could play in as well as sleep. From the outset I knew that I wanted to wallpaper one of the walls and make this the main feature of the room. When I saw this monkey and palm print from These Walls I was instantly hooked!
The wall paper really sets the mood and design for the rest of the space. Next I sourced the bed. I went through many configurations before finally deciding on bunk beds (I crossed everything in the hope that my 6 year old would be happy to sleep on the top - phew… he LOVES it). My heart was set on a Oeuf bunk bed but with the import costs into Dubai it was WAY out of budget. I stumbled across a locally made version from Pomme Kids (thanks Instagram) which was perfect. I love the softness of the wood, it adds a great earthy tone to the room. Next I sourced the rug from the West Elm x Pottery Barn Kids Collection, it’s soft and makes the perfect play mat. The storage unit is from IKEA and is a great way to hide all the toys in a very robust unit.
One of my favourite decor items in this room are the bed covers. I stumbled across them in a discount bin in Debenhams, Dubai Mall and instantly knew they would be the perfect addition to the space. I love the pop of colour that adds a fun vibrancy to the room. I also included the Ikea FUBBLA wall lights for both the boys. The green overhead paper shade adds an extra decorative element to the room. The IKEA mosslander book shelves are a favourite piece of mine and have included them in many kids spaces. The bedside table is from Kartell (who now have a store in the Mall of the Emirates). The art I bought from Etsy and had framed locally. This room is such a hit with the boys (and I love it too).
